I was 18 years old in West Berlin, Germany in C/2/6...when we were watching AFN TV as the North overran the South in Nam.

The next morning, we were told to get up at 0400 hours and "pack your gear".
We thought we were going to Nam to save the place...but it was just an alert.

We had lunch at Templehof AFB, then went back to the barracks and that was the last we heard of "Nam."

I remember that day also, from a different vantage point than you had. For me, Vietnam played out on the TV news every night. I grew up around an Air Force base, knew guys who had been to and back from Vietnam. So I did get reality checks to balance the tv. But, to this day I canNOT comprehend why the general public cannot separate the actions of politicians from the actions of Soldiers. The term "we do this to keep you and our families safe" is NOT a well kept secret. Yet, sadly, too easily ignored. I knew a lot of guys back from the Vietnam war that just "disappeared" in many different ways. To all of them, I hope time has healed old wounds. Thank you for all you did against unbelievable odds.
