Your humble scribe taking the air in Kuwait before heading north.
Hello!
I am a 43 year old veteran Marine turned National Guardsman, who felt that 13 years of the United States Marine Corps didn’t quite satisfy the calling of the late John F. Kennedy, who said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
I left the Corps in 1997, and wandered aimlessly about until 2001, when a group of Islamofacsists decided that they wanted to play rough. Unfortunately, I had gotten all kinds of out of shape in the interim, and so I began the process of losing weight, and getting my butt back into fighting trim. Well, I didn’t quite get there, but it was good enough for the Washington State National Guard, and two years ago, I got back into the uniform of my country, with the support of a lot of good folks.
So here I am, in Iraq, answering the call… I invite you to join me on this journey, where an old, partly broken infantryman has answered the call, and, during the journey, will get the chance to learn a few more things about himself. Along the way, you’ll meet the notable characters that make up the Bone Crushers, a mechanized infantry company in the 81st Heavy Brigade Combat Team…
So ruck up and fall in, I think we’re in for one hell of a trip!
Hoo-ah! Semper Fi!
